E-commerce giant Amazon says that it will build a fourth fulfillment center in the Greater Toronto Area, a million-square-foot facility in the Town of Caledon.

The 600,000 sq. ft. facility will create more than 800 full-time jobs and will join the company’s network of existing Ontario buildings in Brampton, Mississauga and Milton and a million-square-foot facility in Ottawa.

“We continue to be excited about our growth in Ontario and the opportunity to better serve our customers in the region,” Glenn Sommerville, director of Amazon operations in Canada, said in a press statement.

“We’re seeing an incredible workforce and community support in Greater Toronto. It makes us proud to add a new fulfillment center to better meet customer demand while creating more than 800 full-time jobs with great pay and benefits to support the local economy,” Sommerville said.

The Caledon fulfillment center will handle the packing and shipping of small items to customers such as books, electronics and toys, according to the online retailing giant.

The news follows Amazon’s recent announcement that it will build a massive distribution center in Ottawa.

“Ontario continues to be a great place for Amazon to do business and we look forward to adding a fulfillment center in the National Capital Region,” Glenn Sommerville, director of Amazon operations in Canada, said in a statement.

Amazon has selected real estate and construction company Broccolini to build the “built-to-suit fulfillment center” at a site near Boundry Rd. and Hwy 417 on the city’s east side.

Broccolini says that it will be the largest industrial facility ever to be constructed in the National Capital Region and is expected to create more than 600 new full-time jobs once operational.

Construction in Ottawa is expected to be completed in 2019.
