TradePort International Corporation (TradePort) has unveiled plans for a significant renovation of terminal facilities at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

The development stems from a new 49-year management lease agreement between the City of Hamilton and TradePort, signed in September 2024. The extended partnership, which began in 1996, has played a key role in positioning the airport as a critical driver of connectivity, economic growth, job creation, and community development in the region.

Planned terminal enhancements:

  • Updated exterior frontage with expanded canopies for improved curb operations
  • Refreshed terminal interiors, including modernized check-in counters, passenger screening areas, gate seating, and baggage claim
  • Architectural elements inspired by the region’s natural geography
  • New digital signage and enhanced lighting to improve passenger experience

Plans also include future additions such as passenger jet bridges, a first for Hamilton International, and infrastructure upgrades to support increasing air traffic

“This investment marks an exciting new chapter for Hamilton International Airport,” said George Casey, Chair and CEO of Vantage Group. “Through strong partnerships and a focus on strategic development, we continue to enhance the airport’s service offerings, ensuring its success for decades to come.”

A key component of this initiative is the new partnership with Porter Airlines, which will begin offering daily flights from Hamilton to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Vancouver starting in June 2025. Porter Airlines’ CEO, Michael Deluce, highlighted the airline’s commitment to an enhanced passenger experience and expanded connectivity.

“This investment will transform passenger services at our airport, create jobs, and drive economic growth,” said Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwarth. “Hamilton International has long been a hub for Canada’s largest domestic overnight express cargo service, and this expansion further solidifies its role as a vital economic asset.”
