SmartLiving, SmartCentres REIT’s residential sub-brand, plans to construct a new high-rise tower adjacent to Yorkgate Mall, steps away from the future Jane-Finch LRT station.
Urban Toronto reports that the 22-storey high rise is the first significant new rental building proposed for the Jane-Finch neighbourhood in nearly 40 decades. There will be 294 rental units.
The proposed tower designed by Petroff Partnership Architects will occupy the site’s northwest corner along York Gate Boulevard, replacing part of an under-utilized surface parking lot. The project will not affect the existing mall.
In a statement, SmartLiving says it recognizes the importance of the Yorkgate Mall among the local community and the company emphasized that the shopping centre will remain for the foreseeable future.
