As I write this I am just wrapping up the Easter weekend with family and at the hockey rink for my oldest son’s playoffs, while planning ahead for the next few months of work for articles, features and industry themes I will be covering. Things will be busy for the next few months and then I can focus on my three-day weekends during the summer months.

I enjoy scheduling, planning and long term goals for work and my personal life. In a few weeks the Construction News and Report Group will be holding its mid-year planning session to review where we are based on projections and goals set back in October. A lot of my recommendations this year were made towards strengthening our digital footprint, growing electronic newsletter databases and one posting solution to cover all social networking avenues to get our news and articles out to more readers.

We will look at what we set out to accomplish and I am betting we will find some things have slipped through the cracks while others had been deferred to complete some action items that are five months late.

Our digital online sales are starting to pick up and I want to reinforce these just as we continue to build traction. The biggest surprise was the roll out of advertising options in our enewsletter that keep gaining traction each month. The options are reasonably priced at $395 and can get you a banner ad for one month or a featured article in one issue and on our website. The goal here is to gain enough emails for the three U.S. publications and the four we have in Canada so this venture is generating an additional $50,000 a year in sales between e-newsletter, web advertising and special sponsored emails. That works out to only 11 sales a month.

Is your company looking to market itself beyond a print ad to gain additional readers and viewers with our digital options? Contact me and mention you read my April viewpoint and I will double your advertising dollars. You buy an e-newsletter ad for one month and I will give you a second month for free!
