Carpenters Union Local 27 is contributing $100,000 to Eva’s Initiative for Homeless Youth to support the non-profit organization’s fund-raising campaign for the relocation and construction of new facilities for Eva’s Phoenix.

The contribution is a significant support in the $10.7 million fund-raising campaign to relocate the transitional housing and employment training facility, which will be demolished to build new condos in the Liberty Village area in early 2016.

So far, $9.5 million in public and private funds have been raised. The new structure will replicate the original Phoenix layout with self-contained, home-style living quarters.

“Each youth will have their own bedroom, with shared kitchen, living room and washrooms,” an Eva’s media advisory noted. “In addition to transitional residence for 50 homeless youth at a time, the training, employment and education programs offered at Phoenix will continue to be delivered to 150 homeless youth each year.”

Carpenters Union Local 27 president Mike York was to make the contribution at Toronto City Hall on Oct. 15.
