An Aecon-led joint venture has signed alliance contracts with Metrolinx for the multibillion-dollar GO Expansion rail project in Ontario.
ONxpress Civils Contractor General Partnership, a 50-50 partnership between Aecon Group Inc. and FCC Canada, is the construction partner responsible for delivering the project.
Announced Aug. 27, the contracts follow the completion of collaborative development work. The project will be delivered under a target-price model, with Metrolinx as the owner.
Aecon will add $649 million to its construction backlog in the third quarter of 2026. Another $65 million, representing its share of work, was added to the company’s backlog in the second quarter, bringing the total to $714 million.
Construction has already started on the Durham College Oshawa GO Station, along with other civil work, track improvements and upgrades along the Lakeshore East line.
“The GO Expansion program is one of the largest infrastructure investments in Canada,” Aecon President and CEO Jean-Louis Servranckx said in a statement. “Aecon’s expert teams are a cornerstone in safely delivering this project alongside our partner and client.”
The GO Expansion program is intended to increase GO rail capacity and improve service and connections across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Aecon’s experience delivering major transit projects in Ontario will support its role on the project. The company has worked on the Waterloo LRT, Finch West LRT and Eglinton Crosstown LRT, as well as the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Advance Tunnel project.
The company is also involved in the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Elevated Guideway project, the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems project and the Yonge North Subway Extension Advance Tunnel project.
Aecon is also a partner on the Surrey Langley SkyTrain Stations project in British Columbia and the Réseau express métropolitain and Montréal-Trudeau International Airport REM Station projects in Quebec.
