Trillium Health Partners (THP) has broken ground on the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre patient care tower. This milestone event signifies the start of construction on a 600,000 square foot facility.

Infrastructure Ontario and THP awarded a $1.3 billion fixed-price contract to EllisDon to build and finance the redevelopment project. The bidding process was initiated with a Request for Qualifications on October 8, 2021, and using the criteria identified, EllisDon Corporation prequalified in May 2022.

“As we break ground today, we mark a historic moment in our commitment to providing exceptional patient care,” stated Karli Farrow, president and CEO at Trillium Health Partners. “The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will serve as a beacon of modern complex care and rehabilitation services, prioritizing the holistic well-being of our patients and community.”

The new health centre is designed to address the anticipated surge in demand for specialized care over the next two decades, particularly in the realms of rehabilitation and complex continuing care. Consolidating these services under one roof, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will offer an integrated healthcare setting tailored to meet the unique needs of patients.

“The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will be a modern centre for complex care and rehabilitation services, dedicated to provided people-centred care because when we care for a whole patient our entire community becomes stronger,” saidFarrow.

There will be more than 350 beds, all in private rooms, in addition to the 198 beds currently operational at the Queensway Health Centre. Purpose-built spaces for group rehabilitation, outdoor areas for healing and restoration, and comprehensive dialysis care services will further enhance patient experience and outcomes.

“The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre expansion represents our government’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services to Ontarians,” said Premier Doug Ford. “By investing in projects like this, we are building a resilient healthcare system that meets the needs of our growing communities.”
