The City of Toronto will start a five-month construction project today on Broadview Avenue between Gerrard Street East and Danforth Avenue to replace TTC streetcar tracks.

This $6.5 million project is coordinated with the TTC and bundles multiple construction needs into one project to save time and money. To help complete this work as quickly as possible, construction will be permitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Work includes replacing the TTC tracks to reduce the current track noise and bring them into a state of good repair as well as resurfacing the road and repairing damaged sidewalks and curbs on Broadview Avenue and Montcrest Boulevard.

Additionally, sewer work will be done in phases and completed by early 2024.

Measures to help manage traffic flow during construction will include using real-time video monitoring, electronic message boards, traffic agents and paid duty officers. More information about this work is available on the project website.

“This is another example of the major infrastructure work we are doing as quickly as possible to minimize disruption and as fiscally responsible as possible to maximize the City’s investments in multiple projects,” said Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie. “There will be long-term gain for everyone who uses Broadview Avenue.”
