Hazelview Properties says it has opened the Story of Midtown Toronto rental property at 73/75 Broadway Ave., the first residential rental building in Canada to receive the Rainbow Registered accreditation.
“This milestone reflects a powerful commitment to inclusive housing—one where 2SLGBTQI+ residents are not just welcomed but meaningfully supported,” Connor McKiggan, national business development manager at the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement.
“At Hazelview, we go all out to build and nurture a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture, whether it’s in our workplace or properties we manage,” added Jasmin Pirani, marketing and social impact partner at Hazelview, a real estate developer with more than 200 multi-family properties in Canada.
The company says it is in the process of receiving the Rainbow Registered accreditation for its corporate offices and select properties within its Toronto/GTA portfolio.
Rainbow Registered is an accreditation program run by the 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce.
It grants a time-limited recognition to businesses and organizations for demonstrating compliance with standards that ensure 2SLGBTQI+ customers feel welcome. Accredited businesses are deemed market-ready for the 2SLGBTQI+ community and given the right to be associated with the program’s Rainbow Registered designation.
With June marking the start of Pride Month in Ontario, Hazelview said the Story of Midtown Toronto provides inclusivity measures including:
Pride-themed email signatures and resident communications
Team members who participate in comprehensive training on 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion, pronoun usage, unconscious bias, and inclusive language
Policies that outline steps and expectations for supporting team members from diverse backgrounds. The policies are reviewed annually and backed by mandatory employee ack
nowledgment.
