EllisDon has been selected as one of the 2016 winners of Mediacorp Canada Inc.’s Canada’s Top 100 Employers Competition. The contractor is recognized for exceptional human resources programs and a forward-thinking workplace.
“EllisDon joins a group of companies with outstanding physical workplaces; work and social atmospheres; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time-off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement,” a news release reported.
Now in its 16th year, this national competition saw a record number of employer applications. As part of their process, Mediacorp editors examined the recruitment histories of 85,000 employers through job-search engine, Eluta.ca. From here, 8,000 employers were asked to submit extensive applications alongside a detailed review of their operations and HR practices.
Aside from being industry-leaders in their fields, this year’s winning organizations collectively employ almost three-quarters of a million Canadians, and have an influence on national employment practices and working conditions that extends far beyond.
Winners were highlighted in a special magazine published in the Globe and Mail, and will be honoured at this year’s Top Employer Summit on Nov. 16-17 in Toronto, an event that will feature a keynote address from former US President Bill Clinton.
Geoff Smith, EllisDon’s president and CEO, credits his employees for these consecutive wins. “What we’ve come to realize from a moral point of view— as well as from a very pragmatic business point of view— is if you put employees first, clients get great experiences and shareholders get great returns,” said Smith. “You don’t even need to think about it. It just happens.”
