Toronto’s high-rise courthouse project has achieved LEED Gold certification under LEED Canada NC v2009, EllisDon announced last week.
The 17-storey, 690,000 sq.ft. courthouse amalgamated six Ontario Court of Justice locations, introducing a new era of environmentally conscious legal infrastructure. Features include high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, set to reduce water consumption by an impressive 32 per cent, and an energy-efficient design poised to cut building energy consumption by 40%.
The courthouse embraces renewable energy with a rooftop solar panel system, showcasing a commitment to reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
During construction, 85 per cent of waste was diverted from landfills, reflecting a dedication to responsible construction practices.
The NTC is located on a provincially-owned site at 10 Armoury St.
In February 2018, EllisDon Infrastructure was awarded the contract to design, build, finance and maintain the NTC.
Construction began in fall 2018. Work on the exterior of the building was completed in 2021.
