Begun in 1977 primarily as a suppression and fire extinguisher company, Cambridge-based Richardson Fire Systems Inc. (RFS) has grown to be a leader in the life safety industry.

The company has grown both organically and through acquisitions and now employs a full-time staff of 26.

Brian Breckles, vice-president of sales and marketing, says a large component of the company’s business is annual inspections where Richardson employees work with property managers, educational instituations, care facilities and general contractors.

“We also work on new construction projects where we work closely with engineers, architects, electrical contractors and other trades.”

He says as legislation and regulations change, RFS stays current, ensuring it can provide the niche technical information projects and project partners require.

The company has invested time and resources into a custom database solution to ensure smooth internal operations. This system, Breckles says, is capable of providing budget forecasts for RFS customers.

“By recording client-specific information and inputting it, our system allows us to forecast for clients when their equipment will need replacing, what their annual service requirements will be…service calls can be scheduled and dispatched before a client’s call is completed and inspection reports are submitted from the site for an immediate response.”

Additional investments, through acquisitions, attracting technical leaders, distribution partnerships and new product lines, have expanded and cemented the company’s success within the industry.

Focused primarily in southern Ontario, Richardon Fire Systems Inc. has used DataBid’s services  for about five months. Breckles says DataBid has already proven a great resource and its search function is a great time saver.

Richardson Fire Systems Inc. provides fire alarm systems, kitchen and clean agent suppression, emergency lighting, sprinkler and backflow, fire hose and hydrants and monitoring. For more information, visit www.richardsonfire.com.
