A contracting company promises a full review after a construction worker fell to his death at the Ashbridges Bay wastewater treatment plant in Toronto on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called at about 11:30 a.m. Toronto police said the man fell about 100 feet and they ruled the incident an industrial accident.

Mike DePonio, president of Jay Dee Contractors of Canada, said the Jay Dee team is “deeply saddened” by the incident, which occurred on the site of the Coxwell Bypass Tunnel construction project.

“We intend to fully understand the circumstances that led to this incident and will provide all necessary support to ensure a thorough and transparent review.” Jay Dee Contractors will be providing grief counselling and support to employees affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. Their safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we will ensure they have the resources they need during this difficult time.”

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is investigating.
