The Barrie Construction Association (BCA) recognized its accomplishments and confirmed its 2015-16 board of directors at the association’s annual general meeting on Feb. 5.

In notes prepared for the meeting (GTA Construction Report went to press before the meeting occurred), incoming BCA chair Russ Kerr, Barrie’s Vipond branch general manager, thanked outgoing chair Katherine Van Leeuwen for her years of service to the association.

He also congratulated BCA administrative assistant Bryony Mantha for her five years of service to the association, before presenting scholarships to the newly renamed BCA Memorial Scholarship Award, observing that “an additional $1,000 will be donated to this fund each year to honour the BCA members who have passed away.”

Steven Howes and Matthew Hensely, both enrolled in the electrician-construction and maintenance apprenticeship at Georgian College received cheques.

In his new business report, Kerr said the association “will continue to promote the association to the buyers of construction” and will be conducting strategic planning sessions to ensure sustainability.

He said the BCA will also continue to work with the Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance to monitor the Ontario College of Trades.

Upcoming events include a sold-out hockey tournament on Feb. 13, Hockey Helps The Homeless on March 6, Bowling for Big Brothers/Sisters on April 1, and a Pub Night on April 30.

Among other events, the Association plans a Speed Networking program on May 19, which he described “an opportunity to meet multiple procurement partners to make key connections.”
