Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the William Osler Health System have issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the new Peel Memorial Hospital redevelopment project. The project will be delivered through IO’s Progressive Design-Build contract model.
IO and Osler will pre-qualify teams with required design and construction experience for the project and shortlisted teams will be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP), expected to be released in Fall 2024.
“With this milestone, we are another step closer to transforming Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital and bringing greater access to the health care services this community needs most,” said Linda Franklin, board chair, William Osler Health System. “Together with our partners – the Ontario Government, Infrastructure Ontario, City of Brampton and the Osler Foundation, and with the significant support of the community – we are building a robust local health system and transforming health care in this area for generations to come.”
The new hospital will increase health care capacity in the community and address the significant need for more specialized care for patients requiring longer hospital stays before they can safely return home or to additional care in the community.
“Moving into the procurement stage brings us closer to a strong, accessible health system for our community’s future,” said Dr. Frank Martino, president and CEO, William Osler Health System. “The transformation of Peel Memorial into Brampton’s new hospital will bring specialized and expanded services that are vital for patients and their families.
“We look forward to working with our partners in the time ahead to help increase hospital and health care capacity to serve our growing community.”
The redevelopment project features include:
- 250 inpatient beds with the space to build more in the future
- New and enhanced Mental Health and Addictions programs
- New and enhanced services for seniors, including dementia care
- Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care
- Inpatient and Outpatient Dialysis
- New and enhanced outpatient clinics and services
- 24/7 emergency department
“Infrastructure Ontario is proud to partner with William Osler Health System on another exciting redevelopment project at Peel Memorial Hospital. We look forward to reviewing the submissions towards getting a contracting team on board. Once completed, the new Peel Memorial Hospital will provide increased patient care in the city of Brampton,” said Michael Lindsay, president & CEO, Infrastructure Ontario.
