PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) says, with matching contributions, the company and its GTA employees have raised more than $430,000 for the United Way.

“I am continually humbled by our employee’s dedication to carrying on PCL’s tradition of giving back to the communities in which we live, work and play, with 93 per cent  of our employees making a personal donation to the campaign,” said PCL Toronto district manager and campaign chair Kelly Wallace.

“On the occasion of Giving Tuesday, I am honoured to share that our employees have collectively raised $200,469.33 for 11 United Way community funds and 90 other charities that are close to their hearts. Combined with fundraising events and PCL’s corporate program that matches employee donations dollar for dollar, the campaign raised $423,499.66 in total,” he said.

PCL also partnered with the United Way through its Building Community program which enables each employee to donate one paid day of company time to registered charities. The program was launched in 2007 in response to surveys that indicated employees, with the support of PCL, wanted to take a more active role in making a difference in the community.

“By linking our Building Community program with this year’s United Way campaign, employees became keenly aware of the impact their donations are having in our community,” Wallace said in a news release.

“PCL Toronto is one of our top contributing United Way partners with a rich history of supporting community initiatives, and 2015 was no different,” said United Way of Peel Region president and CEO Shelley White said in the same announcement. “This year, PCL not only raised much needed funds, they also delivered impact through volunteerism at three of our funded agencies including Knight’s Table, Community Living Mississauga, and Nexus Youth Services. This level of commitment demonstrates the spirit of cooperation to build a better community for all of us. Together, we are possibility.”

Since PCL began partnering with United Way in 1969, offices throughout North America have participated in annual campaigns to raise funds in support of local community agencies. Last year alone, PCL raised more than $7.1 million for 19 United Way and member organizations throughout North America.
