The Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS) has donated $20,000 towards transportation for the Central Ontario Building Trades (COBT)’s Hammer Heads program which introduces youth from under-resourced neighborhoods in Toronto to the building trades.

James St. John, director of the Hammer Head program and business manager of COBT, is holding the right end of the cheque. Sean Strickland, CEO of the OCS, is to the left of the cheque. The pre-apprenticeship program has seen 91 students move on to apprenticeship in various unionized building trades since its inception in 2009. The cheque was donated at the OCS thirteenth annual State of the Industry and  Outlook Conference in Toronto recently.
