Oakville town council has adopted Official Plan Amendment 074, updating land-use policies and mapping for areas affected by the provincial Parkway Belt West Plan.
Council approved the amendment on Jan. 27 through Bylaw 2026-002, following a town-initiated planning process under the Planning Act.
The amendment updates the Livable Oakville Official Plan to reflect anticipated changes stemming from the province’s planned revocation of the Parkway Belt West Plan. It introduces new policies and mapping to guide how affected lands will be managed once the provincial plan is cancelled.
As part of the changes, the town revised several official plan schedules to show Parkway Belt West lands with a green dashed line, allowing secondary land-use designations to be identified. The amendment also applies the Region of Halton’s Natural Heritage System designation and related policies to certain areas and adds provisions addressing future studies and land-use considerations.
Town staff reported that written and oral submissions were considered prior to council’s decision.
The amendment affects multiple sections of the official plan, including policies related to natural heritage, special policy areas and land-use designations across Oakville.
Under provincial planning rules, the decision may be appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal. Appeals must be filed with the town clerk by Feb. 17 and must include reasons for the appeal and the required filing fee.
Official Plan Amendment 074 forms part of Oakville’s ongoing review of its planning framework in response to provincial policy and legislative changes.
