The Remington Centre, Ontario’s newest enclosed retail development, has announced it has reached a key development milestone and has filed for a building permit with the City of Markham. The developer said construction of the 800,000 sq. ft. would commence in late 2014.
The Remington Group project, designed by Kohn Partnership architects, will feature more than 700 retail options, ranging from exclusive boutiques to global retailers, the developer said in a news release.
“The Remington Centre is a new concept in refined retailing,” said Wayne Chan, vice-president of commercial and residential property investments for The Remington Centre. The “mall includes condo-style retail spaces and the centre’s five themed courts, making it a unique offering and one of the largest retail centres under construction in Ontario,” he said.
“We are very pleased with the progress of this innovative project. As an award-winning, quality-focused development company, The Remington Group will ensure The Remington Centre will meet the highest standards in design and development, and will be a hub for a thriving, growing community to shop, dine, live and play.”
“This is a signature development for Remington and for the City of Markham,” says Markham mayor Frank Scarpitti. “It’s an outstanding shopping centre – one of its kind – where visitors will experience the shops, the restaurants, the living and the community all in one location.”
The developer says that more than 80 per cent of The Remington Centre’s saleable units have been purchased. The centre has a multi-million dollar sales centre at Kennedy and Denison. The multiple “liquid display” touch screens that enable visitors to virtually walk through the centre.
