Peel Region has reached a key milestone in its upgrades to Mississauga Road with the opening of a new bridge overpass that separates the roadway from the CN Rail tracks.
The new overpass redirects traffic over the rail corridor, improving safety and efficiency for both road users and rail operations. The project is being delivered in partnership with CN Rail and is designed to enhance connectivity and support future growth in northwest Brampton and southwest Caledon.
Peel Region says the overpass will help enable development in the City of Brampton’s Heritage Heights secondary plan area, while also supporting the future expansion of Metrolinx’s Kitchener line rail service.
“The new Mississauga Road overpass is more than an infrastructure upgrade — it’s a vital connection that improves safety, reduces delays, and supports the future growth of Brampton and Caledon,” said Kealy Dedman, commissioner of public works for Peel Region. “This milestone demonstrates Peel Region’s commitment to building a transportation network that keeps people and goods moving efficiently, while preparing for tomorrow’s needs.”
As construction continues, traffic on Mississauga Road will remain one lane in each direction through the summer of 2026, when the project is scheduled to be completed.
The broader Mississauga Road widening and upgrade project includes expanding Mississauga Road from two to six lanes between Bovaird Drive and Sandalwood Parkway, as well as widening Sandalwood Parkway to Wanless Drive from two to four lanes.
Additional project elements include a new multi-use pathway along the east side of Mississauga Road for pedestrians and cyclists, upgraded streetlighting and landscaping, boulevard improvements, and enhanced intersections and traffic signals aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.
