Do you enjoy volunteering? Do you like to give back to your community and work-related groups and committees? I do and like most I get asked to help out even more because of my desire to make my community a better place.

This year I started out helping with the sponsorship and fundraising for the Niagara Spears Football Association with the goal of learning from the existing director over the course of the next year or so to step in one day. Guess what happened a month in? The great director I was working with got a new job and had to step away, leaving me to take on the position. I met with two of the key members of the board for a mini interview and said yes to taking on the responsibility. Why would I? It will help my son and the other players by keeping fees to play lower and allow me to give back to my community.

The work I do with the Niagara Spears crosses over to my job here with the GTA Construction Report. For the sponsors who are construction related, I like to recognize them with some free ads and even editorial coverage in the paper. In the next few weeks once team photos are done and some of my son Ethan you will see some “Thank you” ads appear in the paper. The upside is I will be able to maintain existing relationships with clients, build new ones with perspective clients and increase public awareness about my real job. If you are interested in sponsoring a great football organization that has players from ages 13-18 over five teams, draws several hundred fans to home games, has great local TV coverage with Cogeco Cable, media coverage in local newspapers and a wonderful trade publication like mine, send me an email chase@niagaraspears.com Every dollar you sponsor the association with gets you a matching dollar in advertising credit.
