The Orillia Manufactures’ Association (OMA) and Orillia District Construction Association (ODCA), in continued response to help build the local skilled trades’ workforce, are organizing the second annual Explore the Trades Event. The trade show style event, being held on May 26, 2015 at ODCVI/Park St, provides an opportunity for local secondary students to explore opportunities in the trades at a time when they are trying to determine which career path they should take.

For employers, this is their chance to connect with students and showcase the talent and capabilities of our local industry leaders while promoting awareness of careers right here in our own backyard.

To reach as many students as possible, the school boards are assisting in the coordination of bussing for secondary students currently enrolled in, or interested in, skilled trades programs throughout the morning and early afternoon.  Additionally, grade 7 and 8 students, parents, as well as post-secondary students will be invited to attend the show between 3-4pm.  Local organizations will be on-hand to provide information on scholarship and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as supplementary learning and training possibilities.

Exhibitors are encouraged to bring hands-on/interactive displays including machinery, products and training material and tools to engage the next generation of students.
