STAFF WRITER – The GTA Construction Report

Should you use a leasing and fleet management service to manage your company’s vehicles?

Marta Balczewska says the answer is a definite “yes” and she explained the reasons at a Barrie Construction Association (BCA) Lunch and Learn on Jan. 20.

Balczewska, an account executive, corporate accounts, with Addison Fleet, says that fleet leasing programs save contractors on operating costs and preserves their capital for revenue generating opportunities.

She says there are many vehicles and options and, with leasing, lower capitalization and operating costs, higher efficiency and fuel savings.

“I think a common mistake some contractors make is not exploring options regarding vehicles,” she said. “The selection is very important. Sometimes a contractor may have had a bad experience with a certain brand years ago, and doesn’t realize that the changes and new models make it the best choice today.”

As well, she said, GPS and fleet management systems allow contractors to discover efficiencies and savings. This process encourages behavior changes – reducing drivers’ “heavy feet” for instance results in fuel and maintenance cost savings. “The goal is not to track the drivers, but to track their behavior and inspire changes.”

The leasing and fuel card, coupled with online management tools, allows contractors to quickly understand their costs as they discover savings and increase their efficiencies.
